Site demolition

and reconstruction

Project Scope:

Demolish, remove and reconstruct the subgrade for placement of new ADA compliant sidewalks and ramps for the current Glacier Bank headquarters in downtown Kalispell. Work included demolition and removal of 4,449 SF of existing concrete sidewalk, subexcavation and haul off of all subgrade materials, installation of 326 LF of 6” rain drain piping with cleanouts and connection to existing curb inlets, excavation and backfill of new foundation for addition to building, installation of frost protection foam board, and import and placement of base gravels to grade. With the project located in the heart of downtown Kalispell, and section of the project occurring along the side of MDT HWY 93, Strods Contracting performed the work with limited work space, and restricted overhead clearances. Public safety on site was paramount and factored in to all aspects of the project. Due to the site also being an active banking institution, portions of the work was required to be completed in an accelerated fashion to ensure minimal disruption to banking operations.

Specialty

Construction

Project Scope:

Specialty project located on the Sykes Building Vault, located at one of the busiest building corners in Downtown Kalispell. Initial design and constructed as a lighted vault allowing for natural light to access the buildings basement ballroom, Strods Contracting was tasked with removing the deteriorating glass tiled sidewalk panels and enclose the vault located under the busy sidewalk. Work entailed demolition on interior finishes within the vault, demolition and removal of three 8’ x 11’ x 10” thick concrete and glass tiled slabs, procurement and installation of two 12’x16’x6” thick precast concrete panels, import and placement of structural backfill, and finish grading for cast in place concrete sidewalks. Unique challenges to the project was limited site space and overhead room due to the adjacent building and busy roadway intersection. Additional safety measures were also implemented due to the work taking place around a highly trafficked public building.
